Happy 4th of July! Hopefully everyone has had a good weekend and got outside, watched fireworks, grilled some food, and had fun with friends.
I was listening to the radio the other day and heard something that I thought was pretty cool. Watch the video below to find out what it was.
While most of us think about taking the day off or leaving work early on our birthday’s, the DJ wanted to stay at work an hour longer! This is the type of work we should be doing in our lives. Where our work is a reflection of who we are and what we enjoy doing.
Finding a suitable job doesn’t have to be rocket science. When we look at things like our natural skills, passions, and purpose in our lives we can find a variety of options.
Skills: Those things that you do innately well. This could be communicating, leading, organizing, planning, etc.
Passions: Things in your life that you are drawn too. Horseback riding, wine, TV, golf, flowers, etc.
Purpose: Some would call this a “calling.” Your purpose is the reason you are on this planet. This statement should start with “I exist to.” It does NOT end with a job specific answer such as “Teach Math,.” It may say something like “I exist to challenge and help youth become better students.”
Combining these 3 things can help us clarify our current situation and know what type of job we are going to be naturally drawn towards.
The Birthday Challenge
I am making a challenge to you. By the time your next birthday comes, you will have identified your skills, passions, and purpose. And you will be experiencing life and work balance just as the DJ was on her birthday.
This may seem a little lackluster, since some of us have birthday’s coming up, and some don’t have birthday’s for quite awhile. The idea is meant for life betterment. What are you going to do before your next birthday to better your life? If we are not doing things to help us move forward in our lives each time a birthday comes around, we are likely staying where we are,or moving backwards. So the challenge is to move forward, and feel better about life by the time your next birthday comes around.
That’s it for now. Have a great week!
