Have you ever met someone that was unhappy with their current situation? You saw them a year or two ago and they complained about how bad the economy was and how they were looking for a new job. Just recently, you ran into them again and they said the same exact thing? We want to hear an inspiring story from them that they are taking action and chasing their dreams. I’ll bet that the next time you see them, it will be the same old message. It’s because just simply saying something does not mean it’s going to happen. You need to take action!
I know people that have told me they want to lose 15 pounds over the next 3 months. The funny thing is that I hear the same message 3 months later. It’s because they didn’t make a plan and didn’t take any action.
There are easy steps to take to help you take action.
1. Write down action steps – It’s guaranteed that if you write something down on paper, it has a much better chance of happening. After you start writing down action steps, it becomes real to you. Look at what you wrote down every day until you have achieved your goal.
2. Just do it – Like Nike says. Just start doing what you want to happen. If you want to travel more often, start traveling. Don’t sit at home and research the best trip deals. Go do it!
3. Set a timeline – If you write down a goal, give yourself a timeline for that to happen. If you are searching for a new job, give yourself a specific date or period of time in that which you will have a new job. It’s like a project in college. When you have a deadline to meet, you’ll meet it.
Never act until you have clearly answered the question: “What happens if I do nothing?” ~Robert Brault
We all know what happens if we do nothing. But what can happen when we start saying yes and start using meaningful action?! Use the 3 steps I laid out above and you will start accomplishing your goals.
Be ready for change. Embrace change in your life. Many times people will not take any action because they are afraid of changing. They are comfortable where they are and the thought of making a lifestyle change is scary. The truth is that change is scary. However, when you don’t make a change you will continue down the same path. Embrace change and look forward to it.
Have fun with the actions that you decide to take. Be easy going about them. If you beat yourself up over taking action, it won’t be fun for you. You’ll become frustrated and resist the thought of taking action.
Enjoy losing the 15 pounds, or starting a new career. Make friends that will support you on your journey. Don’t hang around people that aren’t going to encourage you along the way.
